On November 28, the final ITIA decision was issued, imposing a one-month suspension for… Igi ¦wiatek for the positive anti-doping test result of the sample on August 12. Trimetazidine was detected in her body. But Shelf proved that she did not take the prohibited substance intentionally and consciously. It was found in melatonin, which was prescribed by her doctor.

The former tennis player was moved by Świątek's attitude

In September, ITIA decided to temporarily suspend the Polish tennis player. She appealed the decision, so the agency was bound by a confidentiality clause. Świątek did not have to comply with this clause, but she also remained silent on the matter until last Thursday. She explained the whole matter fans in a few-minute-long video and statement.

– On September 12, I learned about the positive result of the anti-doping test, from a sample taken on August 12, i.e. before the tournament in Cincinnati. The lowest ever concentration of trimetazidine was detected. This is the most difficult experience of my life. I didn't do anything wrong, she said in the recording published on November 28.

Świątek's reaction after the announcement of the results of the ITIA investigation impressed Andrea Petković, a semi-finalist of Roland Garros in 2014. Above all, she appreciates the fact that the Pole decided to tell in person what the fuss is all about. She appreciates that she dared to stand in front of the camera, despite the stress and fatigue of the last turbulent period.

– I think that Iga Świątek coped with it best of all the players thanks to her films, to put it bluntly, in her language in which she feels best, with translation and subtitles, of course. It really touched me because you could see the stress, the anxiety, the relief that it was over, and just the straight explanations, like she was looking into your eyes. I thought that was really strong of her and I must say she really gained respect and recognition for what she did there. “I think it's really difficult,” Petkovic said on Rennae Stubbs' tennis podcast.

Iga Świątek was suspended by ITIA for a month, but the three weeks of temporary suspension from September and October were included in the penalty. Today, December 4, is the last day of the Polish woman's punishment.
