Warner Bros. celebrates its 100th birthday. It was in this studio that such legendary works as “Casablanca” or “The Shining” and such iconic series as “Friends” were created. In the list of the 10 most popular and at the same time the highest rated – according to the IMDb portal – Warner Bros. there are productions that represent truly masterful cinema.

April 4 marks exactly 100 years since The Warner brothers founded their film production company. This studio, created by immigrants born in Mazovia, was the first to break the sound barrier in the cinema and shoot “The Jazz Singer”, the first film with dialogues spoken by actors. In its film portfolio, the Warner brothers studio has both epic superproductions and comic book adaptations or gripping crime stories, as well as terrifying horrors and touching love stories.

Below are ten of the most popular and best-rated – according to IMDb – movies that were made at Warner Bros. Studios. The American label created so many hits that classics such as “The Shining” or “Casablanca” did not even enter the top ten.

1. “The Shawshank Redemption”, 1994 (2,722,640 ratings, average 9.3/10)

Although the film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel did not win any Oscar, it is widely recognized as one of the most famous productions in the history of cinema. This is evidenced, among others, by the number of IMDb user ratings – the highest among all Warner Bros. films. The Shawshank Redemption tells the story of a banker who is wrongly sentenced to life in prison and tries to survive in a brutal prison world. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman starred in Frank Darabont’s lead role.

2. “The Dark Knight”, 2008 (2,695,505 ratings, average 9/10)

The most popular – by the number of ratings on IMDb – of the Batman film series. In the production, which premiered in 2008, the famous superhero faces the Joker, a dangerous criminal who wants to plunge Gotham City into chaos. The role of Batman was played by Christian Bale, his opponent was played by Heath Ledger, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in The Dark Knight. Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart and Michael Caine also appeared in the cast of Christopher Nolan’s film.

3. “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”, 2003 (1,873,254 ratings, average 9/10)

Data available on IMDb indicate that it is the last part of the trilogy based on Tolkien’s novel that is the most popular of the entire series. The high-budget spectacle, showing the last part of the hobbits’ journey to Mount Doom, dominated the Oscars gala in 2004, winning as many as 11 statuettes. “The Return of the King” itself was recognized as the best film of the year, while Peter Jackson received an Oscar for best director.

4. “Pulp Fiction”, 1994 (2,091,262 ratings, average 8.9/10)

Hired killers, a gangster’s wife, a boxer with connections to the underworld and a pair of thieves – the fate of these characters is intertwined in Quentin Tarantino’s film full of violence, but also humor. John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson – starring in “Pulp Fiction” as Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield – created one of the most famous criminal duos in the history of world cinematography. Tarantino won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay along with Roger Avary.

5. “Inception”, 2010 (2,392,276 ratings, average 8.8/10)

The podium is complemented by another film by Nolan – released to cinemas two years after “The Dark Knight” “Inception”. In the surreal vision of the American director, technology enables people to enter the world of dreams. The thief Cobb, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is tasked with smuggling thoughts into a sleeping mind. Other roles were played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Elliot Page, and Tom Hardy. Inception won four Oscars.

6. “The Matrix”, 1999 (1,942,162 ratings, average 8.7/10)

Among the most popular productions of the Warner brothers, there was a story about computer hacker Neo (played by Keanu Reeves), who finds out that his world is a simulation and joins the rebels fighting the system. Inspired by the cyberpunk climate of computer games, the film by the Wachowski brothers – today known as the “Wachowski sisters” – was an absolute cinematic sensation of the turn of the century. He was awarded four Oscars, including for the best special effects.

7. “Interstellar”, 2014 (1,884,017 ratings, average 8.6/10)

The third, also taking into account the order of creation, Nolan’s film in the list. “Interstellar” is a picture in the science fiction genre. When climate changes lead to the destruction of Earth’s civilization, a group of scientists discovers a wormhole that is the last resort for humanity. Like the similar genre “The Matrix”, “Interstellar” won an Oscar in the category of best special effects. Starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.

8. “Seven”, 1995 (1,681,993 ratings, average 8.6/10)

Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman as cops chasing a serial killer who chooses his victims according to a special key – the seven deadly sins. “Seven” by David Fincher is the only classic detective story on the list. The cast was truly stellar – apart from the aforementioned Pitt and Morgan, the screen appeared, among others. Gwyneth Paltrow i Kevin Spacey. This translated into acclaim from viewers and critics, but did not bring any Oscars.

9. “Prestige”, 2006 (1,353,910 ratings, average 8.5/10)

A list of the ten most popular films by Warner Bros. closes another, fourth on the list, Nolan’s film. The plot of “The Prestige” revolves around the conflict between two young illusionists, which breaks out after the wife of one of them dies in a tragic accident. Nolan gathered many stars on the set: Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson. The film was nominated for an Oscar in two categories, but did not win in either of them.

10. “Django”, 2012 (1,584,577 ratings, average 8.4/10)

Almost twenty years after the release of Pulp Fiction, Tarantino made Django. One of the main roles was again played by Samuel L. Jackson. DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Kerry Washington. This time, the American master of bloody comedy has drawn a story about a bounty hunter and a black slave who set out on a journey together to rescue the latter’s wife from the hands of a brutal planter. Tarantino once again won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, while the statuette for Best Supporting Actor went to Waltz.
