At least 15 people have been killed and 113 are missing after landslides triggered by heavy rains in eastern Uganda, police said on Thursday.
“A total of 15 bodies were found and 15 injured people were helped,” the police wrote on Platform X. Previously, eight people were reported dead, mainly children, and 30 missing. The landslide hit the village of Masugu in Bulambuli district on the border with Kenya. Not only people died, but many domestic animals were also drowned in the mud.
– At least 20 houses were buried and destroyed – Sarah Madada, responsible for crisis management in Bulambula, said at a press conference.
Flooding in the northwest
Uganda has been hit by heavy rainfall in recent days.
Flooding occurred in the north-west of the country after the Tangi River flowing into the White Nile overflowed. Four of the eight passengers in the taxi that were washed off the road by the river drowned. A soldier trying to reach them by rescue boat also died.
