Dozens of people are dead after flash floods and landslides occurred in the Indonesian province of North Sumatra. The search for seven missing people continues.
North Sumatra was hit by very heavy rainfall on Saturday. In several districts, eleven people died in landslides and four more in flash floods.
The search for seven missing people is still ongoing. About a hundred rescuers, along with the army and police, are taking part in the activities. However, the search operation is hampered by rainfall. – It's still raining. This is a major obstacle to locating missing people, said disaster agency spokesman Abdul Muhari.
As a result of floods and landslides, houses, mosques and roads were damaged, and extensive damage was also reported in rice fields.
Authorities have warned residents of the province of the risk of flooding and landslides in the coming weeks as more downpours are forecast.
