Supporters of the Summer Olympic Games, which will take place in 2028 in Los Angeles, can have the opportunity to use flying taxis – says the BBC. The introduction of such a solution is promoted by the organizers of the sports event. However, appropriate consent is necessary.
The organizers of the Olympic Games announced cooperation with Archer Aviation, which is to ensure the transport services of transport taxi both during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company plans to use the fleet of special aircraft for this purpose.
They are still waiting for permits
The concept of flying taxis has long ignited the imagination not only of new technologies enthusiasts, but also organizers of sporting events. Fishing fans of the Paris Games in 2024 were to be used by flying taxis. Aircraft, however, did not obtain all required consents from European regulators.
Archer Aviation also does not yet have the required permits from the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States. This means that planes are still not allowed for commercial use. The founder and general director of Adam Goldstein expressed the hope that the consent will be issued later this year.

If the procedures are successful and the air taxi will obtain appropriate permits before the start of the games in 2028, the fans will be able to use 10-20-minute flights between selected locations, including the largest Olympic facilities in the region.
It is not yet known how much a single flight will cost. Goldstein, however, emphasized in an interview with “Los Angeles Times” that he would like the costs to be comparable to the prices of higher class transport, offered by taxi service providers for the application.

Ordering air taxis would also be done using the application. Each of such aircraft will be able to accommodate four passengers.
Goldstein: There is no better moment for this
“We want to change the way people move around Los Angeles, and leave the heritage that will affect the future of transport throughout the United States,” said Adam Goldstein. “There is no better moment for this than the games,” he emphasized.
In 2024, the UK government presented the “Future of Flight” plan, in which it was announced that the first flight of a flying taxi could take place in the country in 2026.
Los Angeles was the host of the Summer Olympic Games twice – in 1932 and 1984.
