The members of the hunting reform team are discussing, among other things, limiting bird hunting. In addition to representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the team also includes members Polish Hunting Association, officials from State Forests and the natural and social side.
Deputy Minister: Birds suffer in agony, Dantesque scenes
Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Mikołaj Dorożała said the team began discussing changes to hunting last month. He said members are working on a document reducing the number of birds on the list of game species.
There is no basis for shooting some species of birds that are simply suffering in agony. This hunting with shotguns is a Dantesque scene, so we would like to finally put an end to it
– he emphasized. The birds that are on the list of game species are: wood pigeon, partridge, pheasant, mallard, common pochard, teal, tufted duck, greylag coot, white-fronted goose, bean goose, woodcock and hazel grouse.
The deputy head of the Ministry of Climate and Environment admitted that the talks were difficult. At the first meeting of the team in July The issues of hunting in the buffer zones of national parks and reserves were also raised. – We have such situations in Poland, where a reserve is established and around this reserve we have ten stands that stand and every animal that comes out of this reserve gets a shot, so we talked about it with Polish The Hunting Association. I think it was accepted quite unequivocally – as a situation that we must solve together – he assessed.
An average of 300 deer killed per day
According to Deputy Minister DorożaÅ‚a, the hunting community needs transparency, and society should be educated about hunting. – I also want people to be aware of the numbers when we hunt specific species of animals. In the case of deer, it is close to average 300 deer per day that are killed. We are talking about wild animals here – he emphasized. The task of the advisory and consultative team operating at the Ministry of Climate is to develop recommendations for the reform of hunting and changes in the law.
