LONDON — The Taliban launched 4 Britons who have been detained in Afghanistan on allegations that they broke the legal guidelines of the nation, the U.Okay. authorities mentioned Tuesday.
The Overseas Workplace mentioned in a short assertion that it welcomed the discharge of the 4 Britons, and expressed apologies on behalf of their households “to the present administration of Afghanistan for any violations of the legal guidelines of the nation.”
“The U.Okay. authorities regrets this episode,” it added.
The Overseas Workplace did not present particulars on who the 4 have been or what legal guidelines they allegedly broke.
Scott Richards, co-founder of the U.Okay.-based nonprofit Presidium Community, which was concerned in negotiations to assist safe the Britons’ launch, mentioned one of many 4 was Kevin Cornwell, who had been working with the United Nations in a medical capability.
Cornwell was detained in January in a Kabul resort housing nonprofit staff, together with an unidentified resort supervisor, after Afghanistan’s Directorate of Intelligence searched their rooms and located a pistol within the resort protected, in line with Richards.
All 4 males have been on a flight returning to the U.Okay. on Tuesday, Richards added.
