The nuns who run the Boys’ House in Broniszewice (Wielkopolskie Voivodeship) informed that part of the subsidy had been withdrawn from them. This would mean that the facility, where 67 charges with disabilities reside, would not be able to function for four months a year. When the news spread, the voivode of Wielkopolska posted an entry on social media assuring that “DPS in Wielkopolska will not remain without support.”

As reported by Tymoteusz Gil’s sister, one of the Dominican nuns who run the Broniszew Social Welfare Home, the nuns received a letter from the Provincial Office, which informed them that “PLN 600,000 for current living” was taken from the facility. “This is one-third of the annual subsidy. So for four months of this year, we cannot function as a HOME,” the nun alerted.

She also stressed that it was an extremely unfair way to treat the pupils of the facility. IN Boys’ House Currently, there are 67 residents with various degrees of disability.

Tomasz Zimoch, MP, who submitted a parliamentary interpellation to the voivode, also alerted about the reduction in funding.

Change of decision

A few hours after the entry by sister Tymoteusza, the voivode of Wielkopolska, Michał Zieliński, announced on social media that “DPS in Wielkopolska will not remain without support.”

“Pursuant to Article 155 of the Social Assistance Act, I accelerated the decision to transfer funds to finance the activities of, among others, the Boys’ House in Broniszewice, run on behalf of the district government,” reads the voivode’s entry.

Tymoteusz’s sister also informed about the change of decision. She expressed hope that on Monday “the decision on the subsidy will change”. MP Zimoch also referred to the matter, stating that “the pressure makes sense”.
