– In ankle-deep mud, sometimes literally falling over and lifting thousands of believers once again took part in the Way of the Cross in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska – reported this morning Konrad Borusiewicz, TVN24 Kraków reporter. The celebrations started early in the morning and ended with staging of the Stations of the Cross.
Every year, the Kalwaria Mystery of the Lord’s Passion gathers tens of thousands of believers. The tradition of organizing them dates back to the beginning of the 17th century, when a Bernardine monastery was founded in Kalwaria. This year, according to the organizers, 65,000 people attended the celebrations.
This year, during the traditional sermon at Pilate’s Station on the Way of the Cross in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski spoke, among others, about John Paul II. The Liturgy of Christ’s Passion and Death on the Crucifixion Hill was celebrated by Bishop Robert Chrząszcz.
