The European Commission referred to the ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine announced by Poland and Hungary. The commanders-in-chief of the parties fighting in the conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF) have agreed a three-hour ceasefire for humanitarian purposes. – I hope that next year – if we meet here, which I believe – it will be possible to say incomparably more – said Jarosław Kaczyński during the anniversary celebrations of the Smolensk catastrophe. Here are the highlights of the last hours.

1. The European Commission on the decision of Poland and Hungary

European Commission commented on the ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine announced by Poland and Hungary. “We are requesting further information from the relevant authorities to assess these measures,” Commission spokeswoman Miriam Garcia Ferrer said. She stressed that “trade policy is the exclusive competence of the EU, and therefore unilateral action is unacceptable.”

– We are in constant working contact with the European Commission in connection with the decision taken. We emphasize that it is possible due to the security clause, said government spokesman Piotr Mueller.

2. Three-hour ceasefire in Sudan

The commanders of the parties fighting in the conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed on a three-hour humanitarian ceasefire on Sunday afternoon, Reuters reported.

The United Nations called for a cessation of hostilities. The commanders of both sides agreed to suspend the fighting for three hours, from 4 pm to 7 pm local time (in Sudan the same time applies as in Poland). Citing witnesses, Reuters reported that 16 shootings in the country’s capital Khartoum have eased. Reuters reporters in Khartoum and other cities reported that Sudanese television had suddenly stopped broadcasting the program, and the reasons for this were unknown. The agency also reported that Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdul spoke by phone on Sunday with the leaders of the feuding parties – two generals – and called for an end to hostilities.

3. Easter attacks in Ukraine

The Ukrainian State Service for Emergency Situations has published a photo of a destroyed Orthodox church in the town of Komyszuvacha in the Zaporizhia region. Only a small dome and icons scattered on the ground remain of the building. This is the result of a Russian attack on the night of April 15-16, when the Orthodox Easter began in Ukraine. The mayor of the local commune, Yuri Karapetjan, told the Ukrinform news agency that an S-300 missile had fallen on the temple.

The Russian military also shelled a temple in Nikopol with heavy artillery, as a result of which two people were injured, Serhiy Lysak, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, was quoted by Ukrinform.

4. Assassination of a former Indian politician

A former member of the Indian Parliament and his brother were fatally shot while being escorted by police for medical examination. Everything was broadcast live on TV.

Atiq Ahmed was sentenced to life in prison in March this year in connection with his abduction. He and his brother were considered influential figures in the criminal environment in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Experts point to the growing problem of the increasing use of extrajudicial justice in religiously polarized India.

5. Poczobut spent his 50th birthday in a cell

Andrzej Poczobut, an activist of the Union of Poles in Belarus and a journalist, celebrated his 50th birthday on Sunday. In February, he was sentenced by a Belarusian court to eight years in prison. He is currently in the custody of prison No. 1 in Grodno, where he is awaiting the date of the appeal hearing against the sentence announced on February 9. It will take place in front of the Supreme Court.

In a political trial, the authorities accused Poczobut of “inciting hatred”, including, as the prosecutor’s office claimed, “rehabilitation of Nazism”, and then also calling for sanctions and actions to the detriment of Belarus.

6. Kaczyński hopes that “there will be brave prosecutors”

Anniversary celebrations were organized in Warsaw on Sunday the Smolensk disaster. 96 people died in the tragedy, including the president Lech Kaczynski with his wife Maria, the last president of the Republic of Poland in exile, Ryszard Kaczorowski, and high-ranking state officials and commanders of the armed forces.

In the evening, Lech Kaczyński’s brother, the president of PiS, spoke Jaroslaw Kaczynskiwho said that “in a moment, a notification will be submitted about the likelihood of committing a crime under Article 134 of the Penal Code, the crime of murdering the President of the Republic of Poland”. – Because the Polish investigative authorities are conducting an investigation into the catastrophe and its causes, but they still do not conduct such an investigation. I hope and express it here that they will take up this case, that they will not back down, that courageous prosecutors will be found. Because today, to take up these matters, you still need courage – he added.

– I hope that next year – if we meet here, which I believe – it will be possible to say incomparably more. Not that today it’s like we don’t know what happened. Because every reasonable person knows – the story of the other side is from the point of view of physics, from the point of view of other circumstances, completely absurd and unacceptable to anyone reasonable – he assessed.

7. Barcelona failed. Just like Lewandowski

FC Barcelona lost another point in the Spanish top flight. The La Liga leaders, with Robert Lewandowski in the squad, just drew 0-0 with Getafe, which are in fifteenth place in the table.

The pride of Catalonia has not had the best streak lately. They lost badly to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey (0-4) and were eliminated from the competition, after which they only drew with the average Girona 0-0. A possible victory against weak Getafe was supposed to improve the mood in Barcelona. With such rivals, coach Xavi’s players should win on their way to the championship. Lewandowski was also counting on a break. The Polish striker leads the La Liga scoring charts with 17 goals, but has been on a downer lately.
