U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have launched “targeted operations” against immigrants who pose a “public danger.” A fire broke out in a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in Turkey, killing 76 people. The deputy head of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen, warns against the sabotage activities of the Russian shadow fleet. Here are five things to know on Wednesday, January 22.
1. “Targeted actions” against immigrants in the US
Tom Homan – the White House's “border czar” – said in an interview with CNN that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been “in the field” since Tuesday and have begun targeted operations” against immigrants who constitute a “public danger”. At the same time, he noted that “there will certainly be more arrests” because agents are not only looking for people with criminal convictions.
The new White House administration announced that arrests could take place in schools and churches. Reuters writes that the first planes with deportees are scheduled for this week.
2. Tragic fire in a Turkish ski resort
IN hotel fire in the ski resort Kartalkaya village Turkey 76 people died and dozens were injured.
The fire broke out on Tuesday morning in the hotel restaurant. Some tourists escaped from the fire by jumping out of windows on sheets.

3. Danger in the Baltic Sea
The deputy head of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen, warned that in connection with destruction of infrastructure by the Russian shadow fleet, European Union should prepare for the worst-case scenario.
The Vice-President of the European Commission called on member states to implement two sister directives that are intended to help countries increase the resistance of critical infrastructure to sabotage.
4. An unrecognized chamber of the Supreme Court decided on the PiS complaint
Seven judges from the unrecognized Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs of the Supreme Court accepted PiS's complaint per resolution NEC that the rejection of the annual financial report is justified.
The status of these judges is questioned and the Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar informed that in accordance with the judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights, this chamber “is not a court”.
5. An investigation into Musk's company is necessary
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) demands that Elon Musk's company SpaceX investigations due to an accident during the last test flight of the Starship rocket.
The spacecraft exploded in mid-air and its debris fell to Earth. The agency has suspended further flights until this matter is resolved.
