It's already pouring in Slovenia. More rain fell in a few hours than in the entire summer

The Genoese low, which is heading towards Poland, is already bringing heavy rainfall to Slovenia. The most difficult situation is on the coast. Part of the coastal city of Koper and the surrounding roads have been flooded. Traffic is seriously hampered, among others, on the route from Koper to Ljubljana, and on the route connecting the Slovenian capital with the city of Postojna. Roadways are under water.

The services urged people not to travel unless it is necessary.

The heaviest rainfall was recorded in the southwestern part of the country, with more than 100 liters of water falling per square meter. In other places, rainfall of between 20 and 60 liters per square meter was recorded, the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) reported.

As reported by 24.ur.com forecaster Rok Nosan, more rain fell in Slovenian Istria in just a few hours than during the entire summer.

– The hydrological situation in Istria worsened in the morning due to heavy rainfall. Initially, there were flash floods, later the level of smaller streams and rivers increased. Currently, the situation is calming down and river flows have stabilized – informed hydrologist Andrej Golob from ARSO.

As Blaz Ster, a meteorologist from ARSO, reported, the worst-case scenarios regarding the passage of the low did not come true. Currently, it is only locally raining heavily. Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected over the sea until the evening. During the night, the rainfall will move to the east of the country.

Orange weather warnings for heavy rainfall for the entire country are in force until Friday morning.
