The death toll from hostilities in the Gaza Strip is rising. More people have to flee from their homes to escape the shelling. Among them is a Palestinian journalist from CNN, who in his recordings talks about the challenges and danger his entire family faces.

Ibrahim Dahman is a CNN journalist. For years, he reported the stories of the people of Gaza. – I never thought I would become part of these stories – says the man. The journalist reports his evacuation on recordings. He informs them that “he was in Gaza last week when he was told to evacuate.” – But where? Where am I supposed to go? – the man asks and adds that his home, family and whole life are there. – Like many people here, I have no place to go – he emphasizes.

From his video diary we can learn that he and his family reached a nearby hotel. As he reported, there were journalists, families and lonely people there. – We are now among other displaced people, among the million and one hundred thousand who were ordered to evacuate from northern Gaza – he points out in the recording.

After reaching the hotel, the journalist’s son asked him if terrorists attacked hotels. His father assured him that he wasn’t, but in the added clip, he added that he “subconsciously knows that no building is safe.” According to his account, the family found themselves in a hotel room from where they watched the airstrikes, but the sounds of explosions kept them awake at night.

“It’s only a matter of time before we have to run again.”

Dahman reports in his video diary that on the third day of their escape, a rocket hit a nearby building. His father’s cousin was injured in the explosion, but fortunately he suffered only minor injuries. The journalist and his family decided to get out of the hotel and go south to the city of Khan Yunus. – A few moments after we left the hotel, another rocket seriously damaged the surrounding buildings – he says.

Dahman and his family are already in Khan Yunus, where there are still airstrikes, but – as the journalist emphasizes – it is safer there. However, he is concerned that it will only be temporary. – It’s only a matter of time before we have to run again. I hope that one day we will be able to return home, he says in the recording.
