The leaving of the Kuźnica region by migrants is the result of the ultimatum passed to the Belarusian side on the suspension of rail freight traffic at the border crossing there, said General Leszek Elas, former commander-in-chief of the Border Guard, in “Fakty po Faktach”. – It turned out that Belarusians have some weak points – he added. Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz from the 2050 Strategy, former Polish ambassador to Moscow, added that the reason for this “de-escalation” could also be the announcements of further EU sanctions against Belarus.
On Friday, the police in Podlasie shared a recording of the deserted camp near Kuźnica on the Polish-Belarusian border on Twitter. The Border Guard also announced that the services are tidying up the place of the abandoned encampment near the border crossing in Bruzgi. The Border Guard published a video on social media from the place where people who were trying to get to Poland through the border with Belarus were camping. You can see people who on the Belarusian side, they are carrying out cleaning works in the places where the migrant camp used to be.
Earlier, Tomasz Praga, the Commander in Chief of the Border Guard, wrote a letter to his Belarusian counterpart, in which he demanded remove migrants from the transition area in Kuźnica by the end of the week. If this does not happen – he added – “Poland will be forced to stop rail freight traffic through the border crossing in Kuźnica”.
General Elas: It turned out that Belarusians have some weak points after all
General Leszek Elas commented on the development of the situation at the border on Friday in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24, former commander-in-chief of the Border Guard and Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz from the 2050 strategy, former Polish ambassador to Moscow.
They were asked what, in their opinion, had caused the migrants to leave the Kuźnica area.
– I associate the emptying of Kuźnica with the threat that was given to the Belarusian service to close the railway crossing. It turned out that Belarusians have some weaknesses, he commented.
– Suddenly it turned out that Kuźnica is empty and there is no threat there, because it was the threat at the crossing that explained the decision that could have been made – he added.
General Elas said that “we are not dealing with any natural phenomenon, but with an artificial one created by political actions.” – Hence, no rational analyzes can really work here, because, to put it simply, it really depends on what comes to Lukashenka’s mind – continued the former commander-in-chief of the Border Guard.
Pełczyńska-Nałęcz on the reasons for “de-escalation”
Also Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, the former Polish ambassador to Moscow, spoke about the reasons why migrants started to leave some border areas.
– I think that this de-escalation, we do not know for how long, actually happened under the influence of this ultimatum issued by the Polish side, but also under the influence of EU sanctions, a real threat that entities such as Belavia would be subject to these sanctions [białoruskie linie lotnicze – przyp. red.] and also voices from the Chinese side, which began to call for the parties to come to an understanding.
– And it can be presumed that several calls were also made, possibly also to Moscow – she added.
