Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki spoke about the construction of a fence 2.5 meters high along the entire Polish-Belarusian border in Kuźnica in Podlasie. He announced that work would begin in the coming days. – We will not allow waves of unauthorized people to enter the territory of Poland – said the head of government.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is on a visit to Podlaskie Voivodeship on Tuesday. He met with representatives of the Border Guard, the Polish Army and the Police in Kuźnica. After the meeting at the press conference, he referred to the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border. The prime minister argued that the actions of Belarus, which direct migrants to the border with Poland, are “fully aware”. – We came across advertisements from tourist offices that conduct an organized campaign to attract Iraqi citizens to the territory of Belarus. From Belarus, they are transported by special transport to the border with Poland. Here they are pushed out, forced by Belarusian officials to cross the Belarusian-Polish border, he said.
As he added, Poland puts this “a decisive dam” and does it “very effectively”. The Prime Minister assured that he was in constant contact with representatives of the European Union as well as Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. He recalled that on Saturday he talked to the heads of governments of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia about how to stop the “attempt to destabilize the eastern border” of Poland, but also of the Baltic states.
The head of government pointed out that our eastern border is also the EU border. – That is why we have the full support of the European Commission and thanks for actions that limit illegal migration to the territory of the Republic of Poland – said the Prime Minister.
He added that the actions of Belarus are being held back by the “well-organized action” of the Polish Border Guard and soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces.
Prime Minister on the construction of a fence along the Polish-Belarusian border
“We are dealing with an organized action by the Lukashenka regime and we must resist it very firmly,” he said. Therefore, he says, “a fence and a security installation will be erected along the entire Polish-Belarusian border”. He added that it would be at least 2.5 meters high.
When asked when the fence would be built, he replied that work would start in the coming days. – They will certainly take several weeks, maybe even several weeks, but at the very beginning we will secure the section which is the easiest to illegally pass, and more difficult to supervise, i.e. the land section. It is about 180-190 kilometers – he added.
– We will not allow waves of unauthorized people to enter the territory of Poland – argued Morawiecki.
He added that these people were granted visas to Belarus through Belarusian tourist offices and, according to international law, have the right to stay on the territory of Belarus. – The office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees is located in Minsk. If anyone wants to apply for refugee status on the Belarusian side, please do so in Minsk, said the prime minister.
Mateusz Morawiecki: Lukashenka’s regime chose the wrong border
Earlier, he said that “the situation we are dealing with is unprecedented.” – The Lukashenka regime chose the Polish-Belarusian border to provoke. This provocation is based on the fact that the Iraqis – people who are to be an instrument in Lukashenka’s foreign policy – are to be pushed towards the Polish border, said Morawiecki. As he assessed, “this is an attempt to cause a great, pan-European migration crisis”.
– Poland puts a barrier on this type of provocation, this type of behavior. Lukashenka’s regime chose the wrong border, because the Polish border is and will be well guarded, said the prime minister. He added that “security is a priority for us, security at the borders, like here, on the Polish-Belarusian border, safety in the streets”.
The head of government said that “we must be prepared for all kinds of provocations, unprecedented actions, and non-standard actions on the part of the Belarusian regime”.
– We will do everything to make Poland a safe country, so that Poles can live in peace, work in peace without the risk of great migrations that our opponents from the East want to cause – he added.
Morawiecki reminded that there are 1.5 thousand soldiers on the spot, and in a few days there will be a total of about two thousand. “They will assist the Border Guard in patrolling the border with Belarus,” he said.
Commander of the Border Guard: we will always be a wall behind you
During the conference, the commander of the Border Guard, Maj. Gen. SG Tomasz Praga. – This year we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Border Guard and this year we have to deal with the wave of illegal immigration from Lukashenka, from the direction of Belarus – said the general.
He thanked the officers for their attitude and commitment. – And for the fact that you are faithful to the rota of the vow: “to guard the border of the Republic of Poland even at the risk of risking your life”. Every day you prove that the service of our brightest Republic is our true calling – he added.
He conveyed thanks from Mariusz Kamiński, Minister of the Interior and Administration, to whom he joined. – We will always stand behind you for what you do. Remember, you are doing everything legally and by law. You protect the border of the Republic of Poland, but also protect the external border of the European Union. You are bound to this, he said.
– Poles will be grateful to you for that, although today we are judged differently. It is an honor and an honor for me to stand here in front of you and thank you for it – he added.
The situation on the border with Belarus
Poland and the Baltic states – Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – accuse Belarus of organizing the transfer of immigrants to its territory under the so-called hybrid war. In a joint statement, the prime ministers of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia stated that the current crisis on the borders with Belarus was planned and systematically organized by the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. They also called on the Belarusian authorities to stop actions leading to escalating tensions.
On Monday afternoon, the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, announced that the construction of the fence on the Polish-Belarusian border would begin this week.
