The action was extremely difficult – this is how General Ryszard Grosset, former deputy chief commandant of the fire brigade described on TVN24 on Saturday. He pointed out that many of the buildings in this village have wooden elements, and this “facilitates the spread of fire”. “These are really ideal conditions for a fire to spread,” he explained.
In the village of Nowa Biała in Małopolska, a fire broke out on Saturday in 21 residential buildings and 20 farm buildings. About 400 firefighters work on site. Four people are hospitalized, two people receive help on the spot.
“Extremely difficult action”
Commenting on the fight against the element on TVN24, General Ryszard Grosset, the former deputy chief of the fire department, said that “this is an action that firefighters dream about at night and are their nightmares”.
– The action is extremely difficult, because the development of Nowa Biała is actually a parish development. Most of the buildings are adjacent to their side walls. From what I saw in the photos (…), in a large part of these buildings, fragments of the structure, especially the top floors, fragments of the facade are wooden, which also facilitates the spread of fire – he pointed out.
He added that “besides, in the back of these buildings, as can be seen in the aerial photos, there are various buildings, buildings, garages, sheds, mostly wooden”. “These are really ideal conditions for a fire to spread,” General Grosset said.
