The competition in Lake Placid is played in almost extreme conditions. A very strong and variable wind blows, which means that the first round of competition needs to be constantly interrupted. In this situation, however, you can count on a happy gust of wind under skis. Such was used to use one of the Polish representatives.
An incredible jump of Poli Bełtowska. Polish record, hill record
The Bełtowska field competed as the sixth player of the first series of the competition and got a great chance from fate. Before her jumping over the entire length of the jump, a strong wind was blowing. In addition, the compensation system for the wind did not count these gusts as very strong: the polka after the jump was taken away 14.3 points for an average of 1.69 meters per second under the skis – a lot, but without exaggeration. But what a jump it was!
Bełtowska, just after struggling, boldly lined up on skis. And the whole jump in this position, flying beyond the size of the hill. She obtained 131 meters, exceeding the HS point by three meters! This is a new record of the local object among the jumpers. This winter, ladies jump on the Olympic large hill of the Mackenzie Interval complex for the first time in history within the World Cup.
These 131 meters is a leveled Polish record. Bełtowska jumped the same as in 2022 Kinga Rajda at the official training before the World Cup in Willingen. Rajda had an unofficial jump at 134 meters at one of the groups in 2019, which appears as a record on Wikipedia, but such attempts are not included in official records.

Of course, the conditions that a Polish woman came to, but they had to be used properly. And we could not see such a technically good jump of any Polish player. It was a surreal experience, something beautiful.
Her position in flight was almost impressive. This jump on two legs landed, without a telemark, but probably nobody expected it anymore. It is great that she managed to maintain an aggressive position to the flight and stop jumping despite the approach to landing very high.
And if the competition in Lake Placid is completed, Bełtowska will receive a great prize for this jump: her first points of the World Cup in his career. And who knows in what position she would end the competition. It can lead a long time. Such a result of the Polish woman, considering that so far the starts in the World Cup were a great challenge for her, is a gigantic sensation. But also great success, injection of self -confidence.
Competitions at risk, very unstable conditions in Lake Placid
Earlier, another Polish player also gave her jump. Nicole Konderla obtained 89.5 meters and overtook only the disqualified Slovenian Luciam Jurgec and Slovak Tamara Mesikova. The leader of the coach Marcin Bachledosz, Anna Twardosz is still waiting for her attempt, is next in the queue.
After 12 players, the competition was interrupted for ten minutes due to too strong gusts of wind, but it was already continued.
