FC Barcelona successfully competes on two fronts. Even though she lost the last league match against Real Sociedad (0-1), which was her second defeat in La Liga this season, she still confidently leads the pack. He is also doing well in the Champions League. Three wins, one defeat and nine points – this is her balance in this competition, which gives her sixth place in the overall table. However, soon Hansi Flick's players will start competing on two more fronts. We are talking about the King's Cup and the Spanish Super Cup. And it was in the last of these competitions that key changes took place.
Change of date of the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals. Important news for Barcelona and Lewandowski
Classically, four teams will take part in the Spanish Super Cup. He is the national champion and runner-up, as well as the winner and finalist of the King's Cup. This year they will be Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletic Bilbao and Mallorca.
The first players to take to the pitch were Carlo Ancelotti and Mallorca. The match is scheduled for January 8. However, it is already known that it will not take place on time. This is where the key change occurred, as reported by RFEF. The match will be played a day later, i.e. when Hansi Flick and Atletik's players were supposed to appear on the pitch.
Despite everything, football emotions will await fans on January 8. Because that's the day the Barcelona match will take place. So the semi-final matches were simply swapped. Why this decision? It is related to the flood that hit Spain. The eastern part, specifically Valencia, was most affected. To this day, residents are struggling with the effects of heavy rains.
Two weeks ago, the match between Real Madrid and Valencia in La Liga was supposed to take place, but due to a natural disaster, the match was canceled. And according to “AS”, it will most likely be played on January 2 or 3. Therefore, the Madrid team would have little time to recover before the Spanish Super Cup. Therefore, the dates of the semi-finals were changed.
“There is a need for cooperation in readjusting the calendar due to the floods caused by DANA. Therefore, it was decided to change the order of the semi-final matches of the Spanish Super Cup,” reads the official statement of the RFEF. The date of the final will remain the same – January 12.
New dates for the semi-final matches of the Spanish Super Cup:
- Atletic Bilbao – FC Barcelona (Wednesday, January 8, 8:00 p.m.)
- Real Madrid – Mallorca (Thursday, January 9, 8:00 p.m.).
Last season, two teams from Madrid faced each other in one of the semi-finals. Ultimately, Real defeated Atletico 5-3. In turn, in the second match, Barcelona won 2-0 against Osasuna Pamplona. However, Ancelotti's players prevailed in the final (4:1). Then Robert Lewandowski scored the honorary goal for the Catalans (he also scored a goal in the semi-final).
And it seems that the Pole may also score more goals in this year's edition. It is in excellent shape. 19 goals in 17 games in all competitions – this is the balance of the striker, who is currently recovering from an injury he suffered in a league match against Real Sociedad.
