Deputy Minister of Health Wojciech Konieczny said in “Yes it” on TVN24 that he is counting on inter -ministerial cooperation to tighten up penalties for attacks on healthcare professionals. In his opinion, the treatment of these matters so far by justice is “a bit too indulgent”.
The doctor of the Krakow University Hospital was attacked on Tuesday before noon. A 35-year-old man burst into the office where the orthopedist examined the patient and attacked the doctor with a knife. The doctor, despite the efforts of medical staff, died. The attacker was a patient dissatisfied with the course of treatment.

The case was commented on in “Yes, on TVN24 Wojciech Konieczny, deputy minister of health and former director of the Municipal Combined Hospital in Częstochowa.
He began his statement with condolence for his family and compassion for colleagues of the murdered doctor. He said that the situation that occurred was “shameful”.
Goals in hospitals? Deputy Minister: It seems quite breakneck
The deputy minister was asked about the proposals appearing in public space regarding the increase in healthcare employees, including the introduction of goals in the hospital detecting, for example, sharp tools.
– I understand the situation, I understand that we must think about taking steps that until now seemed unnecessary or oversimelle, but still goals in hospitals is a great deal to be done – he admitted Konieczny.
– Considering that this situation happened in the clinic, taking into account that we would have to secure all clinics in Poland, all hospitals, all rescue ambulances, all places where the benefits are provided, it seems quite breakneck – he continued. He added that it would be a “great change”.
– Undoubtedly, we must change the attitude towards all attacks on healthcare representatives, nurses, rescuers, physiotherapists, doctors – he calculated.
He added that in his opinion the treatment of these matters by justice is “a bit too indulgent”. – For an attack on a paramedic, the courts award some social work for two months and so on. No. I appeal to representatives of the judiciary to sit down, deal with this inter -ministerial, (…). I think that we should undoubtedly go in this direction to exacerbate the recipes and give (this – ed.) Very strongly, very strongly – he added.
