“The sense of security has been violated”
– Our sense of security as doctors has been greatly violated today – commented these events, the president of the Supreme Medical Council, Dr. Ćukasz Jankowski.
He emphasized that for a long time the intensification of attacks on medical staff has been visible. – Today's tragedy shows that this aggression is able to end in the most tragic way. What happened in Krakow does not fit in the imagination, it is something terrifying – said the head of the medical self -government.
President of the Supreme Medical Council with “paper protection”
According to Dr. Jankowski, it is necessary to introduce procedures to protect doctors. “You should urgently curb the perpetrators of impunity,” he said. He pointed out that cases of aggression against medics reported to the prosecutor's office were often discontinued or investigators refused to initiate proceedings.
– It dared to the perpetrators, and among the medics it caused the belief that there was no point in reporting such matters, because it would not lead to anything. We will only lose our time – he said. He reminded that doctors benefit from protection like public officials.
– This is also protection on paper, we do not have a sense of real protection by the state apparatus – he assessed.
“The doctor is to help, and not have to defend himself”
According to the President of NRL, it is necessary to urgently introduce procedures for securing hospital wards and clinics. Among the solutions, he indicated, among others, goals at the entrances to hospitals and the wards.
– There are also proposals that alarm buttons are available in doctor's offices to call for protection, as in banks – he added. He stated that changes in regulations will also increase the safety of patients who may also be victims of the attacks on doctors.
– We will only talk about details, among others with the Ministry of Health. Today, our environment is in emotions. The events of today show what we have led to as a society, i.e. to a complete loss of confidence in each other and to a tragic end, when the doctor loses his life, trying to save others – said Dr. Jankowski.
He also pointed out that some district medical chambers conduct self -defense training for doctors. – But it should look completely different. The doctor is to help, and not have to defend himself against an aggressive patient. This is absolutely absurd – he emphasized.
He said that the local government appealed to doctors to celebrate the memory of the deceased doctor on Wednesday with a minute of silence and attach black ribbons to clothes.
