Politicians in “Kawa na Ława” on TVN24 discussed the case of a mentally disabled teenager who became pregnant as a result of rape and was refused legal abortion in several hospitals, citing the conscience clause. – This is simply barbarism and this barbarism in the majesty of the law – said the MP of the Left, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk. Marcin Horała from PiS argued that forcing a doctor to perform an abortion is like “forcing a Muslim to eat pork”.

A mentally disabled 14-year-old girl from Podlasie was raped by her uncle. The case was reported on social media by the Foundation for Women and Family Planning FEDER. As she reported, the girl did not tell anyone about it. She turned out to be pregnant. Neighborhood hospitals refused legal abortionsinvoking the conscience clause. Finally, the procedure was performed in Warsaw.

Horala: It’s like forcing a Muslim to eat pork

Marcin Horala z PIS, Deputy Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, was asked whether such a situation should happen in Poland. – And if the editor imagined it the other way around? What would you call a country where, for example, a Muslim is forced to eat pork – that he has a duty, and if not, he will be fired or punished? – He was asking.

He added that “in many religions, as well as secular ethical systems, human life is the highest value.” – The discussion about the right to abortion is completely different from the discussion about the forced abortion and the fact that someone who does not want to perform it for one reason or another should be forced to do so – added Horała.

Hetman: PiS state failed

Christopher Hetman z PSL stressed that “this girl had the right to perform this procedure.”

“She had a right and the hospital should give her that. If not, he should take care of her and refer her to a hospital where such a procedure could be performed. And here the PiS state failed, pointed out the MP.

Mucha: I don’t understand how the clause works in this situation

According to Joanna Mucha from Poland 2050 “contract with National Health Fund every Polish hospital should contain a passage stating that when abortion is lawful, the hospital is obliged to perform such an operation and must have a doctor who will undertake such an operation.

– I really do not understand what a conscience clause is in a situation where we have a 14-year-old girl with mental disabilities raped. I do not understand the functioning of the clause in such a situation – she said.

Zybertowicz: the hospital did not treat her properly

Presidential adviser Andrzej Zybertowicz stated that “the conscience clause assumes that someone does not want to do something that, in his deepest conviction, is the death of an innocent person.”

– A 14-year-old girl had the right to an abortion and the hospital did not treat her properly, with respect. It should indicate where it can exercise this right. However, you cannot force a hospital to employ a doctor whose conscience sees the matter differently – he argued.

Dziemianowicz-Bąk: barbarism

Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk from the Left said that “the refusal to help, rescue a 14-year-old child who was raped and became pregnant has nothing to do with conscience.” – This is simply barbarism and this barbarism in the majesty of the law – she pointed out.

– The conscience clause that allows you to refuse help to a raped child is barbaric and should be deleted immediately. There shouldn’t be such a thing. If someone’s conscience does not allow them to save a raped child, then they should not be a doctor, added the MP.

Grabiec: PiS created a pathological system

Jan Grabiec, a spokesman for the Civic Platform, stated that “PiS has created a pathological system.” – This is not just about the conscience clause. The point is that doctors who performed abortions before the change in the abortion law system in Poland are afraid to do so today, because they know that the prosecutor is on their backs. In Poland, in practice, it is the prosecutor, bishop and PiS politicians who carry out the pregnancy, said the spokesman.
