Let’s get one thing out of the way in which: that is The Verge, and if there’s any film we’re going to cowl the shit out of, it’s The Matrix Resurrections — even when its new trailer is lengthy on melting / morphing faces and quick on clues concerning the plot.

The newest trailer, titled “Déjà Vu,” opens with a voiceover from Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) with a line from the primary film, when she explains that “déjà vu is often a glitch within the Matrix. It occurs once they change one thing.” That sentence repeats a number of instances. We see a black cat cross Neo’s path similar to within the first film, and we see a collection of display wipes, shifting between youthful and older variations of characters, together with Neo — within the birthing goo pod — Trinity, Morpheus (hello, Laurence Fishburne!), Agent Smith, The Merovingian, and others.

Like the primary Matrix Resurrections trailer released in September, we hear Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit enjoying within the background (there isn’t a rubber duck on this newest clip, sadly). In case you didn’t decide up on the theme, the trailer helpfully reveals the phrase CHANGE, whereas listening to a voice query, “Why use {old} code to make one thing new?” and one other observe that “possibly this isn’t the story we expect it’s.”

The Verge’s managing editor inspired me to weblog my emotions about this newest trailer, regardless that I warned her the sentiments can be largely “lust and in addition extra lust” as a result of look, I’m Gen X, and Keanu Reeves is our mascot, and I really feel compelled to guard and respect him in any respect prices even within the worst of flicks. This movie seems like a superb use of his cheekbones and soulful brown eyes.

And this trailer most likely ought to have been the primary one launched for Resurrections as a result of it reminds you of how a lot we missed the black leather-clad, hair-gelled Matrix crew whereas hinting at an entire new course. That is barely off-topic, however it’s kind of good to see a couple of crows’ toes round Neo’s eyes as he seems round, bewildered, on the Matrix — a lot the way in which I count on most of Gen X would regard it have been we ever to be unplugged.
