Storm Hans brought heavy rainfall to Norway. The municipality of Ringerike suffered the most, with water levels in rivers and lakes still rising in places. On Kontakt 24 we received a report from Mr. Mirosław, who has been living in this region for several years.
At Kontakt 24 we received a report from Mr. Mirosław. The man has been living in Norway for 17 years and is currently one of the people struggling with floods.
– There are floods in Viken County, the likes of which have not been here for decades. Some say it is the Flood of the 500th Anniversary. One of the most affected towns is Honefoss and the municipality of Ringerike where I live. I have not seen such a large amount of water on the Storelva River for 17 years – he described the situation. “A climax is expected tonight,” he added.
It’s still dangerous
Norwegian authorities are debating whether to issue further evacuation orders as floodwater and mud continue to flood homes and vehicles. The number of people who had to abandon their possessions is already about two thousand.
Unfortunately, the situation is still not under control, and the water level in swollen rivers and lakes is constantly rising.
“Critical days still lie ahead,” Ringerike Municipality said in a statement.
The downpours are a consequence of the Hans low that passed over Scandinavia earlier this week. At least three people died, there were huge difficulties in communication, as well as power outages.
It is estimated that at least one million Norwegian crowns will be needed to cover all losses.
