Recovery leave – three months of paid time off for employees who have worked at a given plant for at least seven years – is the proposal of the Trade Union Alternative. According to trade unionists, the changes will have a positive impact on the health of employees and will encourage them to link their careers with one institution.
“We propose to include it in the Labor Code the right to regenerative leave for all employeeswho have worked in a given workplace for 7 years. The leave should be fully paid and automatically granted at the employee's request,” wrote the statement of the Trade Union Zwiedźkowa SpoÅ‚eczna.

It was indicated that “the optimal rest period would be three months”because “it is time sufficient for rest and regeneration, which does not interfere with the functioning of a given company or institution.”
“Poles are among the busiest societies in the European Union. As a result, we are overworked and stressed, and many people quickly burn out and their health condition deteriorates. Improving the quality of employees' health should be one of the goals of state social policy,” we read in the statement.
A regenerative holiday is like a holiday to improve your health
As trade unionists pointed out, “in the Polish legal system there is leave for health care, but it only applies to teachers who, after working for 7 years, “are entitled to an annual leave, and the granting of such leave is decided by an occupational medicine doctor.”
“It is difficult to understand why other groups do not have the right to a similar solution,” the statement emphasized.
“The introduction of this solution, together with the gradual shortening of the working week, would contribute to improving the mental and physical health of employees, and thus increase work efficiency. There would be benefits for employees, employers and the entire society,” the trade unionists wrote.
The issue of work in the public sector
They also proposed that additional rights would apply to public sector employees who would be entitled to regenerative rest also after changing their place of employment and “e.g. transferred from one social welfare center to another.”
“In this way, the Labor Code would encourage qualified employees to link their professional careers with a given institution,” it was noted.
Health leave for teachers
According to the regulations, the school principal grants leave to improve health in order to carry out the recommended treatment of a disease that threatens the occurrence of an occupational disease or a disease in the development of which factors of the work environment or the way of performing work play an important role.
Health leave may also be used for spa treatment or rehabilitation. The maximum duration of a single leave for teachers is one year.
