In the category of air traffic in international space, we were dealing with a very dangerous action and, in fact, causing an air accident – said Juliusz Sabak, military expert of the Defence24 portal on TVN24. This is how he commented on the incident over the Black Sea, in which a Russian fighter jet crashed into an American MQ-9 Reaper drone. He added that “the Russian fighter really did everything to damage the drone.”

Russian The Su-27 fighter hit the propeller of the MQ-9 Reaper drone on Tuesdaywhich led to its breakup. The machines operated over the waters of the Black Sea. US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby called the incident “dangerous, unprofessional and reckless.”

The incident was commented on Wednesday by Juliusz Sabak, a military expert of the Defence24 portal, in TVN24’s “Wstasz i Know”.

He assessed that “in the category of air traffic in international space, we were dealing with a very dangerous action and, in fact, causing an air accident, because otherwise it does not qualify.”

He added that “the Russian fighter did everything to damage this drone, which is in fact an unmanned aerial vehicle.”

“The Russians perform such dangerous acrobatics quite regularly”

– On the other hand, from the political and military point of view, we were dealing with another incident, quite typical when it comes to Russian activities, because the Russians quite regularly perform such dangerous, let’s call it aerobatics, near not only drones, but, for example, near reconnaissance aircraft, for example, American – said the expert.

He mentioned that “we had such incidents when Russian fighters flew in front of the nose of military planes, they made all sorts of dangerous maneuvers at such a distance that threatened the safety of both planes.”

He added that in both of these categories, Russian actions are “dangerous, to put it mildly, illegal and well beyond the boundaries of, let’s call it, the behavior of civilized pilots.”

As Sabak said, “we are dealing with the downing of an American aircraft, so theoretically it is a pretext for some retaliation, and a serious one at that.”

In his opinion, such an incident would not have happened if it had not continued war in Ukraine. – The Russians are aware that various American aircraft, including unmanned aerial vehicles, flying in airspace accessible to everyone, work for the benefit of the armed forces Ukraine. They collect information, provide current data that can be used in combat – he said.

“It was intentional”

The expert noted that the MQ-9 Reaper drone “was drained of fuel, various maneuvers were performed in the hope that this machine would be damaged.” – It must be said directly that it was an intentional action. It wasn’t like it was some random collision. It was a whole series of, as the (American-ed.) general said, unprofessional and dangerous and reckless actions, he added.

“In this case, both airships could have crashed into the sea as well. That would be a serious incident, Sabak said.

In his opinion, “the main reason for such aggressive actions was that it is an unmanned machine, so there was no risk to the lives of US citizens, because it would no longer be an incident, it would be a serious crisis.”
