The Italian Coast Guard carried out a series of rescues on Lake Como in Lombardy, northern Italy. Dozens of sailors were in danger due to strong winds and high waves.

Wind gusts reached speeds of up to 55 kilometers per hour. Waves over a meter high were created on Lake Como. The services' operations lasted from Saturday evening until the early morning hours of Sunday, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Several dozen people were saved

36 sailors were rescued by two Coast Guard marine units and another nine by firefighters and other rescue teams. In several cases, boats became stuck near cliffs and between trees, while others broke down, putting them at risk of colliding with rocky coastlines.

A total of 12 rescue operations were carried out.
