A “small lockdown” has been introduced in Greece

Due to the over 40-degree heat in Greece, the authorities have introduced various restrictions. Some people work remotely, and in Athens, students did not go to school. On Wednesday, the Acropolis will be closed to visitors for part of the day.

Greece is experiencing a heatwave that is expected to last until Thursday. Thermometers in some parts of the country show over 40 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, 41.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in the hottest places. On Wednesday morning, the temperature in the capital already exceeds 30 degrees.

As the eKathimerini website writes, due to the heat, a “small lockdown” was introduced in the country. Some people employed in the budget zone may work remotely. In Athens, schools are closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Closed Acropolis

Tourists also have to take into account certain restrictions. During the hottest part of the day, between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. (11 a.m.-4 p.m. in Poland), the archaeological site on the Acropolis will be closed – informed the Ministry of Culture.

The first official major fire warning of the season has been issued for parts of the country. This is a category four warning on a five-point, ascending scale.

Meteorologists are predicting frequent and intense summer heat waves in Greece.
