A state of emergency has been in force since September 2 in the areas bordering with Belarus. Its introduction excludes media work in this area. Former prime minister and currently MEP Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, who lives in Białowieża, spoke in “Fakty po Faktach” about the situation in the area under the state of emergency. – The border of this zone runs several dozen meters from my house. People tell me about foreigners, he said.
A state of emergency has been in force since September 2 in the border zone with Belarus, i.e. in part of the Podlaskie and Lubelskie provinces. It covers 183 towns. It was introduced for 30 days under the ordinance of President Andrzej Duda, issued at the request of the Council of Ministers. Government officials justify the need to introduce a state of emergency with the situation on the border with Belarus, where Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime is waging a “hybrid war” and the Russian Zapad military exercises. The media are not allowed to work in the territory of the state of emergency.
On Sunday, the Border Guard announced that the bodies of three people had been found in the border region with Belarus. The news was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Border Guard, Sec. Anna Michalska. – On Sunday, the bodies of three people were found in three different border places with Belarus. There are indications that they are most likely illegal immigrants, but we will not provide any information at this stage. The prosecutor’s office is carrying out activities in this case, she said.
The Border Guard found the body in the border area. Cimoszewicz comments
Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, former prime minister and former minister of foreign affairs, and now a member of the European Parliament, was asked about this issue in Sunday’s “Facts after Facts”. – It must be said that these are tragic reports. It is terrible that people who wish to live safer are dying on our land. Unfortunately, they face a fate – he said, referring to the information about three deceased people.
As the former prime minister said, with detailed assessments of what happened in the border zone, “we have to wait for the arrangements regarding the circumstances.” – If these are people who entered Polish territory despite the state of emergency and died of, for example, hypothermia, then the general responsibility rests with the Belarusian authorities, Lukashenka, who is behind this increased wave of migration – he said.
He added that “if it turned out that there was someone detained in the border area among these people, then the responsibility would fall on both countries”.
Cimoszewicz from the border of the state of emergency
– This situation shows that the state of emergency does not matter much when it comes to what is happening at the border. The Border Guard, regardless of the state of emergency, captures the vast majority of those who try to cross the border illegally, said Cimoszewicz. In his opinion, “there are no sensible reasons for the media not to be admitted here.”
The TVN24 guest noted that he is currently in Białowieża. – The border of this zone under the state of emergency runs several dozen meters from my house. I can see how it works. Everyone, almost at my gate to the yard, is being monitored. I don’t quite understand why all cars entering this zone are checked for, but that’s what happens here. A whole lot of officers are busy with activities that do not matter much, and at the same time you cannot be here, talk to the residents – he explained.
– I can confirm that there are many attempts to enter our territory. People talk about obvious foreigners waiting at the bus stop or going to the store – he said. As he added, these foreigners “need to be dealt with in accordance with the law and ordinary human rules.” – You have to send them to centers for foreigners, explain their situation, status and make a decision there – added the guest of “Faktów po Faktach”.
