Kamil Stoch was not appointed by Thomas Thurnbichler to the upcoming World Classic Ski Championships in Trondheim. The Austrian decided to take “only” five competitors: Paweł Wąska, Piotr Żyła, Aleksandra Restrum, Jakub Wolny and Dawid Kubacki. The omission of the 37-year-old is a widely commented decision.

In an interview with Interii Sport Jan Ziobro, a former Polish jumper, bronze medalist of the 2015 (team) and winner of the World Cup competition in Engelberg in 2013, admitted that Thurnbichler would have appointed six players and reminded that this is how Stefan Horngacher did so Four jumpers could put up to the team competition.
– Now we have the opposite situation, that is, we do not have a lot to put in the team, but the players present such a similar level that the choice is also not obvious and caused a disputed situation – said Ziobro.
In his opinion, the omission of the 37-year-old may soon affect Hiccups. – If he ends his career soon, it would be good to have such a man in our ranks. Immediately again we will get rid of someone who has amazing knowledge and we will not use this knowledge. For apologizing, if he knows that someone acted to his disadvantage, he will symbolically show the middle finger and go from Poland. After all, every nation with a kiss of his hand will take him – he said.
Thurnbichler argued that he was guided by the General Classification of the World Cup. In it, Stoch has 88 points, while the achievements of the vein are 66 points. However, the latter in Trondheim will defend the title, which could be treated a little differently.
– Maybe Thomas had already informed them that Piotrek was out of competition. Nevertheless, at the end it's about Stoch, our legend. […] I would take six players and there, on the spot, I would give them a chance in training – emphasized Ziobro.

The former jumper made it clear that PZN president Adam Małysz could join this matter and suggest to Thurnbichler to consider the appointment of Stoch. Although the final decision would belong to the Austrian, who monitored jumpers on an ongoing basis, and the sovereignty of the decision was also guaranteed by contract records.

The Polish trainer assured that his choice was not influenced by the earlier decision of the experienced jumper to choose colleagues and put on a more individual mode of work.
– Sometimes the devil can be in detail. I can say how I would do. In my opinion, here at the beginning you have to recognize the Stoch class, this is not the first athlete. And at some point in his career, the player reaches the level in which he must have trusted people around – Ziobro said, reminding the similar movements of Małysz. – Sometimes you have to get along with someone and compromise to make the effect satisfactory for both sides. So, in this case, for Kamil and Thomas – summed up the 33 -year -old.
The World Ski Championships in Trondheim will start on February 26 and will last until March 9. Polish jumpers will fight for medals in individual competitions on the normal and large hill, as well as in team struggles.
