KYIV, Ukraine — A high aide to Ukraine‘s commander in chief was killed by a grenade given to him as a birthday reward and never in a focused assault, the inside minister mentioned.

Maj. Hennadii Chastiakov died within the tragic accident Monday that badly injured his 13-year-old son, Inside Minister Ihor Klymenko mentioned on Telegram.

A colleague offered six new grenades as a present to Chastiakov, who was a high aide and shut good friend to commander-in-chief Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, for his thirty ninth birthday, Klymenko mentioned.

Chastiakov was displaying off the grenades to his household at residence when his son took one and started twisting the ring.

“The serviceman then took the grenade from the kid and pulled the ring, resulting in a tragic explosion,” Klymenko mentioned.

Police are investigating the incident within the village of Chaiky within the Kyiv area.

The officer’s loss of life was the second deadly tragedy in lower than per week for Ukraine’s navy.
