A union election is transferring ahead at Amazon’s JFK8 warehouse

The Amazon Labor Union (ALU) is transferring ahead with unionization efforts at Amazon’s JFK8 warehouse after having “reached a ample displaying of curiosity” to carry an election, in accordance with Nationwide Labor Relations Board spokesperson Kayla Blado. The NLRB says that it’s scheduled a listening to for February sixteenth, after which the specifics and date for the election will likely be determined. That is solely the second time Amazon’s warehouse staff have made it up to now within the unionization course of, as Vice reporter Lauren Kaori Gurley pointed out on Twitter.

On Wednesday, the ALU tweeted that its petition had been accepted and that “the struggle is simply starting.” It’s been working to unionize Amazon staff in New York for some time: in October 2021, it filed with the NLRB to hold a union election for Amazon amenities on Staten Island. It later withdrew the request as a result of it didn’t have sufficient signatures, and refiled in December, specializing in simply the JFK8 warehouse where it held walkouts before.

Amazon didn’t instantly reply to The Verge’s request for remark. There’s at the moment another union drive at its BHM1 facility in Bessemer, Alabama, the place an election is scheduled to start on February 4th. It’s the second election at that warehouse, and was ordered after the NLRB ruled that Amazon had interfered with the first, which was held in 2021.
