The Polish national team recently began training camp for the upcoming Nations League matches. Among the players missing was Wojciech Szczęsny, who unexpectedly decided to end his career at the age of 34. This has led to many discussions about the goalkeeping staff in the Polish team.
Marek Koźmiński surprised by Kamil Grabara's lack of appointment
Michał Probierz decided to call up Łukasz Skorupski, Marcin Bułka, Bartłomiej Drągowski and Bartosz Mrozek. The coach said directly that there is currently no number one goalkeeper. His decisions caused quite a stir, and in particular there is talk of a surprising absence of Kamil Grabara, who is doing great in Wolfsburg. According to Marek Koźmiński, the absence of the former FC Copenhagen goalkeeper is incomprehensible.
– The omission of Grabara is an incomprehensible decision by the coach. Considering his purely goalkeeping strengths, it was impossible not to invite him to the training camp. Yes, Kamil is a controversial figure, but you have to know how to deal with such matters. Not giving someone a chance just because he is controversial off the pitch is unfair. Personally, I do not get such an explanation. You cannot compare Bartłomiej Drągowski with Grabara, because there is really nothing to compare. With all due respect to the Panathinaikos goalkeeper, but the Wolfsburg goalkeeper is at a higher level – he said in an interview with TVP Sport.
The former Polish national team player also mentioned the situation in defense. And he named a player who could gain a lot now. “I see a place in the squad for Sebastian Walukiewicz. A clear signal is the lack of a call-up for Bartosz Salamon, who is already 33 years old. Walukiewicz has already played in the national team, but not much. We need an influx of fresh blood, and the new Torino player has many advantages. He can be a mainstay of the defense for years to come,” he added.
The Polish national team will play its first match this coming Thursday. That day, it will face Scotland. Then, it will face Croatia, which is scheduled for Sunday.
