Abidjan. Construction disaster, seven workers killed

Construction disaster in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast. At least seven workers died when a six-story building under construction collapsed. Nine people were injured.

Construction manager Jourdin Yoro said that at some point, workers heard the sound of cracking walls, and in just 45 seconds the entire structure collapsed.

The rubble search operation is underway. The building was erected in the wealthy district of Abidjan – Palmeraie.

Another such disaster

It was another disaster of this kind in this city. In 2022, two buildings collapsed there 2 weeks apart, killing 13 people.

It is emphasized that such disasters are relatively frequent not only in Côte d’Ivoire, but also in other West African countries, especially during the rainy season. The reasons are usually poor quality of building materials and non-compliance with regulations.
