I would like a message from Toruń to be sent to Marshal Hołownia, who claims that abortion is not a topic we should be dealing with now, said Deputy Minister of Culture Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus during the pre-election meeting of Left representatives. She also approached those gathered in the audience and asked what they would like to say to the Speaker of the Sejm on this matter.

On Tuesday afternoon, a meeting of representatives of the Left with the inhabitants of Toruń took place in connection with the upcoming events elections local government. Among those who spoke were: Włodzimierz CzarzastyAdrian Zandberg and Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus.

– These elections are about women's rights and I would like this message to be sent very clearly to the world from here, from Toruń. And if I'm talking about it – I'll say it straight: in the elections on October 15, we voted to save the Third Way – said the deputy minister of culture.

– These elections – we have been talking about it for some time – are elections when we vote with our hearts. I would like a message from Toruń to be sent to Marshal Hołownia, who claims that abortion is not a topic we should deal with now, that women's rights are not a topic we should deal with now, she continued.

For several weeks, there has been an ongoing dispute between the Left and the Third Way regarding the issue of abortion. Representatives of the Left accuse the Speaker of the Sejm that so far the Parliament has not considered two bills that this group submitted at the beginning of this term of the Sejm – on legal abortion up to the 12th week and on the decriminalization of abortion. Hołownia announced that he wants all abortion-related projects to be considered at one session of the Sejm and that this will take place only after the first round of local elections, which is scheduled for April 7.

“Simon, did you hear?”

Then Scheuring-Wielgus started walking around the audience with a microphone and asked the audience what message they wanted to convey to the Speaker of the Sejm on this matter. – I approach young people here to ask them what they have to say to Hołownia, who does not want to proceed and does not want a debate about abortion and believes that abortion is a substitute topic – she continued.

– First of all, we are in the 21st century, I didn't vote in the elections so that nothing would change Andrzej Duda and the referendum is no explanation or any solution, and the fact that he may be stuck in his religious bubble does not mean that women, of whom there are several million in Poland, that they should simply die because some man wants it that way – she said one of the event participants.

– Szymon, did you hear? – Scheuring-Wielgus reacted to her statement.

– I would say so Szymon Hołowniathat I once trusted him, I trusted him very much, but now he has betrayed this trust, and not only mine, but it seems to me that if not all, then most women in this country – said another person from the audience.

– Szymon, did you hear? – the MP repeated and asked another person what she would say to Szymon Hołownia.

– That he is not exposed to abortion or that he will have to commit an abortion, but that it is a right that he does not need, so he may not understand it. But let him try to put himself in the position of someone who has to make a very difficult decision and wants to make it, and someone who has nothing to do with them forbids him from making this decision – added another participant of the Left convention.

– Szymon, did you hear? – Scheuring-Wielgus continued.
