At approximately 11 p.m., the officer on duty at the District Police Headquarters in Przysucha received a report of a road accident in the town of Snarki in Przysucha County. A BMW driver hit a 37-year-old resident of Przysucha County in a built-up area. The woman was by her parked Audi.
– After the incident, the BMW driver, along with his passenger, stopped, saw what had happened, and then drove away. The injured woman was taken to hospital – informs Senior Constable Aleksandra Bałtowska from the Przysucha police. – The officers of the criminal department carried out a number of activities that allowed them to identify and detain two people who were travelling in the BMW. As it later turned out, the driver was an 18-year-old resident of Przysucha district, and the passenger was a 19-year-old resident of Opoczno district – she adds.
He faces a severe punishment
The 18-year-old police officers were charged with causing a road accident and leaving the scene.
Causing a road accident in which another person is injured is punishable by up to three years in prison. However, if the accident results in death or serious bodily harm, it is punishable by up to eight years. A driver who leaves the scene of the accident, such as an 18-year-old, is subject to more severe liability. They are treated in the same way as a driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
