The ACO first started to deal with the promotion of the WEC on behalf of the FIA since its inception in 2012, via its subsidiary Le Mans Endurance Administration.
With the introduction of the WEC, endurance racing regained world championship standing for the primary time because the closure of the World Sportscar Championship again in 1992, and the sequence has in recent times launched the Hypercar class.

ACO president Pierre Fillon added that the incoming producers proves that the promotion of the WEC and Le Mans has been “fruitful”.
