He has had about 130 roles in his career, for several of them he received the “Golden Mask” awards. He also gained popularity in film roles, including such films as “The Sinful Life of Franciszek Buła”, “Soccer Poker”, “Death Like a Slice of Bread”, “Wojaczek”.
Adam Baumann, actor of Teatr Śląski im. Stanisław Wyspiański in Katowice, died at the age of 73. He had over 130 theatrical roles to his credit, he was also known to the Polish audience for his film roles. “He is one of those people who leave a huge void that cannot be filled …” – wrote friends from the theater, informing on social media about his death.
Adam Baumann – over 50 years on the stage, for four decades in Katowice
Adam Baumann was an actor of Teatr Śląski for over 40 years, and he was associated with the stage for over 50 years. He started working in the 1967/68 season at the Pomeranian Region Theater in Grudziądz. In 1974 he joined the Teatr im. Jaracz in Olsztyn, from where he moved to Katowice after three seasons.
Subsequent seasons at the Śląski Theater in Katowice brought appreciated creations, incl. The Grand Duke in “November Night” and Caramanchel in “The Green Gil” – for these roles he received his first Golden Mask in 1982. He played Sajetan Tempe in “Szewce”, Salieri in “Amadeusz” (Golden Mask 1985), Don Fernando in “Cida”, Chamberlain in “Ivona, Princess Burgundy”, Alfred Doolittle in “Pigmalion”, Horodniczy in “Inspector”, Publius in “Marble”, Papkina in “Zemście” (Golden Mask 1992), Majora in “Fantazy”, Priest in “Wesele”, Sganarela in “Don Juan” (Złota Maska 1993), Erwin in “Hałdy”, Fortunata Root in “Chłopie” millionaire “, President von Walter in” Intryga i miłość “, Vladimir in” Waiting for Godot “, Karmazy in” Liberation “, Father in” Trap “by Różewicz (Złota Maska 2003), Ubu in the play” Ubu, in a word Poles “.
Recently, the Silesian audience could watch him, among others in “Skazany na bluesa”, where he played the role of Ryszard Riedl’s father, in plays directed by Robert Talarczyk: “Drach”, “Himalayas”, “Wujek 81. Black Ballad” or in Mickiewicz’s “Dziady”. The audience also applauded his great performance in “Cinnamon Shops” directed by Ingmar Villqist and in the play “Mayday”, which has been played for many years.
At the end of September, he was to perform in the premiere performance of “Amator 2020” prepared by Teatr Śląski in co-production with Teatr im. Jan Kochanowski in Opole.
He played in the following films: “Soccer Poker”, “Death Like a Slice of Bread”, “Wojaczek”
He also created film roles in such productions as “The Sinful Life of Franciszek Buła”, “Football Poker”, “Homeless Field”, “Death Like a Slice of Bread”, “Wojaczek”. Winner of many awards and distinctions. For his artistic achievements, he received, among others the most important national awards: Gold, Silver and Bronze Cross of Merit, Bronze and Silver Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of artistic work in 2020, he received the Lena Starke for lifetime achievement.
