There are no plans to impose additional taxes on State Treasury companies – Paulina Hennig-Kloska, an MP from Poland 2050, told the Polish Business Press Agency. She added that Orlen had so far benefited from a privileged position and had not accounted for excess profits.
When asked whether additional taxes on State Treasury companies were planned, she replied: “No. It was an extraordinary situation (a levy on Orlen in the draft act on freezing prices, including electricity – ed.), because Orlen benefited from the fact that he had his former representatives in the ministry, he developed a privileged position, (…) there was an imbalance here.
Hennig-Kloska: Orlen benefited from a privileged position
– What’s more, in my opinion European Commission could ultimately draw attention to this and consider it as a privileged position of the company contrary to the regulations (i.e. failure to pay windfall tax – ed.). Therefore, Orlen should have created a reserve a long time ago, she said.
The MP recalled that the tax on excess profits for 2022 was paid by JSW, and Orlen did not pay such tax.
– Orlen took advantage of a privileged position and did not settle accounts with citizens for the excess profits it obtained on gas in 2022 – she added.
Price freeze and costs for Orlen
On Tuesday, a group of KO and Polska 2050 – TD MPs submitted a draft bill to the Sejm to freeze electricity, gas and heat prices for households and sensitive entities until the end of June 2024. The Orlen Group is to cover most of the costs of further price freezing, the Wysokie Voltage portal was the first to report. According to the portal, the coalition estimates that Orlen will pay approximately PLN 14.6 billion for gas extraction compared to the estimated total costs of the act of approximately PLN 16.5 billion.
In the justification for the project of the KO and Poland 2050 MPs – TD, it is written that “it is proposed that the location of the construction of a wind farm should depend on the noise power it emits.” “In the case of more modern devices with low noise intensity, their location will be closer to residential buildings. Quieter windmills will be able to be located closer, while louder ones should be located much further from the buildings so as not to cause nuisance,” it was explained. The justification also states that the project assumes “a minimum distance of 300 m for locating new wind farms from areas subject to acoustic protection, even in the case of wind turbines quieter than 100 dBA due to the size of these structures.”
Politicians PIS criticize the draft amendment to the act. In their opinion, the provisions of the project are “disastrous” and “harmful to Poles”. In their opinion, the “windmill scandal” is proof of whose interests the “Coalition of Fraudsters” actually represents. They point out that it may lead to the expropriation of people for wind farms.
