Aerosmith has canceled its farewell tour and announced that it is officially ending its stage career due to the health problems of its leader and co-songwriter, Steven Tyler.
During one of the concerts organized in September last year, 76-year-old Steven Tyler suffered serious damage to his vocal cords.
On Friday evening, the band posted a statement on social media saying they were canceling the tour because Steven's vocals would never fully recover. The band said it was a “painful and difficult, but necessary decision.”
The band thanked their fans for over 50 years of support. “It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark ignited and has burned for over five decades. Some of you have been with us from the very beginning, and all of you are the reason we made rock 'n' roll history,” the band wrote.
“We are grateful to our experienced and incredible crew and the thousands of talented people who made our historic tours possible. A final thank you to you – the best fans on Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. 'Dream On'. You made our dreams come true,” the band added in a statement.
Aerosmith is one of the most popular bands that shaped the rock and hard rock sound of the 70s and 80s. Over the course of half a century, they have sold over 150 million records worldwide. Their most popular songs are “I Don't Want To Miss A Thing”, “Dream On” and “Crazy”.
