After the Taliban takes power in Afghanistan, thousands of people are trying to flee the country. Many have already succeeded with a US-coordinated evacuation at the Kabul airport. The Al Jazeera television portal has prepared a list that shows how many people were evacuated by individual countries – US allies.
Many Afghans have chosen to flee after last week the Taliban took Kabul and most of the provinces in the country. More countries have been evacuating diplomatic staff, their citizens and Afghan collaborators since mid-August.
On the airport in the capital, where the evacuation is being carried out, crowds of people who want to leave Afghanistan are gathering.
Al Jazeera collected official data provided by the governments of individual countries, analyzed the information coming from them and prepared a list showing the number of people evacuated from Afghanistan.
The United States evacuated the greatest number of people – 17,000 people, including 2,500 US citizens. Great Britain evacuated over 3,800 people and Germany 2,000.
Six planes with over 300 people evacuated from Kabul have already landed in Poland.
