MEP and president of the Polish Humanitarian Action Janina Ochojska and Marek Ostrowski from “Polityka” commented on the events in Afghanistan in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 on Tuesday. – I believe that the enormous potential that exists in the Afghans has been destroyed – said Ochojska.
The Taliban entered Kabul on Sunday. Taking advantage of the withdrawal of international military forces under US command, they took control of the country. The previous US-backed government collapsed and the country’s president, Ashraf Ghani, fled abroad.
Ochojska: Afghanistan was left to itself
The situation in Afghanistan was commented on by the guests of “Fakt after Fakt”, MEP and president of the Polish Humanitarian Action Janina Ochojska and Marek Ostrowski from the Polityka weekly.
Ochojska said that “it was to be expected that the Taliban, who were conquering more cities, would also reach Kabul quickly.” “I am surprised by the speed of advancing the offensive,” admitted Ostrowski.
The president of the Polish Humanitarian Organization talked, among other things, about the activities of the organization in Afghanistan. She stated that PAH had to withdraw from Afghanistan for financial reasons, because the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was then financed by the military, and there was no money left for NGOs. – I think this scenario could have turned out differently if the peacekeeping mission was really a peace mission, not a mission whereby our and not only our soldiers trained themselves in actions in which they would not be able to take part if they were not present in Afghanistan – she assessed.
– I look at it in such a bitter way, because I believe that the enormous potential that is in the Afghans has been destroyed – added Ochojska. In her opinion, “Afghanistan was left to its own devices, despite the fact that there were so many troops, but the goals of the military were completely different.” – The aim of the Polish army was also to help. It would take more time to tell what she looked like, she said.
Ostrowski: the military component is dominant and that will never change in America
Ostrowski assessed that the scenario in Afghanistan “could not be different, because American interventions, although they have this civilian component,” the military component “is dominant and it will never change in America”.
– Afghanistan’s needs can be satisfied in this way like a drop in the ocean. We idealize Afghanistan. Afghanistan is a corrupt country, with a very weak economy, which is mainly based on illegal opium farming – said the TVN24 guest. – The Americans once again made a mistake in their assessment, just as they made a mistake in assessing the Iraqi operation. They imagined that it was possible to run the economy of a given country with the help of a foreign army. It cannot be done, and it cannot be done similarly in Afghanistan, he added.
