A strong earthquake occurred on Saturday morning in Afghanistan. There are dead and wounded.

According to the latest reports, at least 320 people may have died as a result of the earthquake that hit the Herat province in Afghanistan on Saturday. Information about the sudden increase in the tragic balance was reported by the AP agency, quoting representatives of the United Nations. The number of victims is still being verified.

Earlier, the country’s authorities reported that at least 15 people lost their lives and the number of injured was 40.

According to the American geological agency USGS, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.3.

Jan Sayeq, spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Disaster Management, said that according to preliminary information, all the victims came from the Zinda Jan district in Herat province. The vibrations were supposed to cause a huge panic there.

– People have left their homes, we are all on the streets – said Naseema, one of the residents of the province.

Afghan Red Cross spokesman Erfanullah Sharafzoi said that reinforced rescue teams and volunteers would go to the province.

The number of victims may still increase

Sayeq added that the quake was also felt strongly in Farah and Badghis provinces. It is known that there was considerable damage there, but the number of victims is not yet known.

Authorities fear that the death toll across the country will rise as many people may still be buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
