“After the party, he went shopping, on his way back he fatally hit a pedestrian and ran away”

A pedestrian was fatally hit last Sunday in the village of Wielogóra. Bystanders found the man’s body in a roadside ditch. Police initially arrested five people in the case. One was charged.

On Sunday (February 12), around 8.30 am, the duty officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Radom received information that in Wielogóra, passers-by noticed a man’s body in a roadside ditch. There were also items that could have come from the car.

– Suspecting that the man may have been hit, a patrol of the Radom traffic police was called to the scene. The on-site activities were carried out under the supervision of the prosecutor of the Radom-Zachód District Prosecutor’s Office. After a few hours, Radom uniformed officers selected a person suspected of causing this accident – informs in the message Sgt. pcs. Dorota Wiatr-Kurzawa from the police in Radom.

Charges against the suspect

On Monday, a 28-year-old man was charged with intentionally violating road safety rules.

– He was not careful when driving. As a result, while passing a pedestrian walking correctly, he hit him – reports Sgt. pcs. Dorota Wiatr-Kurzawa.

After the party, he went shopping

During the interrogations, the investigators established that “after an all-night party, the 28-year-old went shopping in a Mazda to a gas station. On his way back, he fatally hit a 48-year-old walking along Kościelna Street, and then fled the scene of the accident.”

A spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Radom, Agnieszka Borkowska, informed that a resident of Wielogóra confessed to committing the alleged acts. The prosecutor also said that the autopsy of the 48-year-old showed multiple injuries typical of a traffic accident.

The remaining four persons detained in the case were questioned as witnesses. After investigating them, they were released home.

Arrest

The 28-year-old, by court decision, was temporarily arrested for three months.

According to the Criminal Code, a person who causes a fatal accident while under the influence of alcohol is punishable by up to 12 years in prison and a driving ban. The perpetrator of the accident may also be required to pay compensation to the victim’s family.
