A Paris court has cleared Air France and Airbus of manslaughter charges. It’s about the flight 447 crash in 2009. 228 people died then. Families in the court did not hide their bitterness. “The victims died for the second time today,” a person close to the two said.

A Paris court on Monday acquitted airlines Air France and aircraft maker Airbus accused of involuntary manslaughter.

The twin-engined wide-body Airbus A330 flew from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1, 2009. During a storm, after strong turbulence, he crashed in the Atlantic. 216 passengers and 12 crew members died. It was the worst disaster in the history of Air France.

The families of the deceased have since demanded the identification of those who, in their opinion, led to the shortcomings leading to the disaster. Both companies pleaded not guilty.

Families embittered after court verdict

The court’s verdict comes after a two-month trial that took place last year. After its conclusion, the investigators assessed that neither of the companies – Airbus or Air France – could be proven guilty and suggested that they should be cleared of the charges.

“We believed in justice to the end, until we walked into the courtroom today. Unfortunately, we left with nothing – admitted Claire Durousseau, who lost her nephew and niece in the crash. The woman stated that those who died in the crash “died today for the second time”. – I’m very sad, I feel sick. I am disgusted – she admitted.

“Over the last 5,022 days we have worked hard to find the wreckage, we have waited and obtained a trial, we expected it to be fair. This did not happen, we are disgusted – said Danielle Lamy, head of the organization representing the families of the victims.

The report says pilot error

A report by the French aviation safety agency (BEA) found that pilot error and airspeed indicators malfunctioned as the cause of the crash. According to the report, the crew reacted inadequately to erroneous indications of airspeed pressure sensors (pitot tubes) as a result of their icing.

According to the report, the pilots failed to take appropriate action in response to the continuous distress signals indicating that the aircraft was losing lift, which led to it crashing into the water within four minutes.
