On June 3, local media journalist Alena Cimaszczuk was sentenced to five years in a penal colony and a heavy fine. Currently, 38 journalists and media workers are behind bars in Belarus, reports the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAŻ).

Neither the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAZ), which monitors repression against media workers, nor the media know what the specific reason for initiating the criminal trial was.

According to information provided by the woman's friends, she cooperated with various press titles, including state media, but was not involved in politics.
