An Egyptian policeman opened fire on tourists in Alexandria, killing at least two Israelis and one Egyptian. The incident took place in Alexandria. The Polish embassy in Cairo appeals for caution.
Extra News TV, which has close ties to the Egyptian security services, reported that the suspect responsible for the attack had been detained. It is not known what the reasons for the attack were. The incident occurred a day after Palestinian militants attacked Israel.
The policeman was arrested
Egyptian security services quickly closed access to the crime scene. Amateur footage posted on social media shows at least three ambulances appearing to be taking victims to hospital.
The incident took place near Diocletian’s Column, as the situation in the Middle East escalated following Saturday’s Hamas attack on Israel.
The Polish embassy appeals for caution
“Due to the tense situation in the region, we recommend that tourists staying on the Sinai Peninsula exercise particular caution, avoid risks and limit activities outside hotels,” appeals the Polish embassy.
