The Gdańsk court lifted the arrest of Katarzyna P., the co-creator of Amber Gold. Libertarian preventive measures were applied against her. P. is illegally sentenced to 12.5 years in prison.
On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk lifted the arrest of Katarzyna P., co-accused in the Amber Gold scandal. He applied libertarian preventive measures against her. P. remains under police supervision (he has to report to the police station three times a week and cannot leave his place of stay), cannot contact the co-accused and witnesses, is forbidden to leave the country and does not have a passport.
On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk released the woman from detention and applied non-discriminatory preventive measures. As Joanna Organiak, the coordinator for cooperation of the court with the mass media of the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk, said on Thursday, Katarzyna P. has already left the pre-trial detention center.
The woman is illegally sentenced to 12.5 years in prison in connection with the Amber Gold financial scandal.

They were tempted with investments in gold and high returns
Amber Gold is a company that was to invest in gold and other metals. It has been operating since 2009, and clients were tempted by high interest rates on investments – from 6 percent. up to 16.5 percent per year – which significantly exceeded the interest rate on bank deposits. On August 13, 2012, the company announced its liquidation, and did not pay thousands of its clients the money entrusted to it or the interest on it.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the Amber Gold company was a so-called financial pyramid, and the accused conducted an activity consisting in collecting money from clients of the parabank without permission.
According to investigators, from the very beginning, when concluding contracts, customers were misled as to the way the money invested by them was used – they were assured that the money would be purchased for gold, silver or platinum, which was to be confirmed by the issued certificates. The deposits were allegedly insured and guaranteed by the Guarantee Fund AG, to which customers had to pay 1 percent. the value of each deposit.
Katarzyna P. and Marcin P. were convicted of frauds of considerable value and money laundering. The verdict was handed down in October 2019. According to investigators, they spent the money obtained from the deposits for various purposes – including: financing of the OLT Express airline (the no longer existing carrier, in which the main investor was Amber Gold), was allocated almost PLN 300 million. Part of the income also went to salaries. It was found that the accused paid themselves PLN 18.8 million.
Marcin P. has been in custody since August 2012, Katarzyna P. was arrested in mid-April 2013. While in prison, the woman became pregnant and became a mother; the father of her child is one of the officers of the Prison Service.
