An unusual inverted rainbow could be observed over Poland on Saturday. This phenomenon, called a circumzenithal arc, does not occur often. They were captured in the photos by Reporters 24.
We received photos of the circumzenithal arc on Kontakt 24 z Kielce and Kazimierza Wielka (Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship) and the town of Krze Duże in Mazovia.
“The phenomenon aroused my astonishment and interest because I noticed it for the first time in my life,” wrote one of the Internet users. I managed to take a photo on Saturday afternoon.
What is the circumzenithal arc?
A circumzenithal arc is rare optical phenomenon halo type. It is created in the atmosphere after the refraction of sunlight on tiny ice crystals in high-level clouds – cirrus clouds, which herald a change in the weather. This phenomenon takes the form of a rainbow arc surrounding the zenith.
