Dr. Kazimierz Walasz, the founder and long-time president of the Małopolska Ornithological Society, has died. The scientist was 72 years old.
Krakow owes, among other things, the first ecological site in the city – Łąki Nowahuckie – to Kazimierz Walasz. For years, the scientist participated in nature conservation activities in the city as a member of scientific teams and councils.
“Dr. Kazimierz Walasz has passed away. The founder and long-time President of the Małopolska Ornithological Society. Birds were his life's passion… Suddenly time stood still,” we read on the MTO website.

“He lived an active life and left a lasting mark as the creator of systems and solutions for the protection of nature and birds – both in Krakow and throughout Poland,” the family said in the obituary.
The Lesser Poland Ornithological Society announced that the funeral would take place on January 17 at the parish cemetery in Borek Fałęcki in Kraków.
Kazimierz Walasz was an ornithologist, ecologist and ethologist. He lectured at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Author of scientific and popular science publications. He belonged to, among others, to the Society of Polish Urban Planners, the Polish Association of Landscape Ecology, the Municipal Commission for Urban Planning under the Mayor of Krakow, and the Scientific Council of the Gorce National Park.
The scientist died on January 9.
