Andrejczyk's throw from the semi-finals at a distance of 65.52 meters was her best this season. No wonder that fans' hopes for another medal in track and field immediately grew. Until now, Polish Olympians in this discipline have been disappointing. Only Natalia Kaczmarek won bronze in the 400-meter race.
Andrejczyk advances to the narrow final. She was very close to being eliminated
On Saturday at 7:30 PM the javelin final began. Andrejczyk was the first to start the competition. And she did really well in her first throw, throwing 62.44 meters. That gave her fourth place after the first round. The best in it was the Japanese Haruka Kitagochi with a result of 65.80 meters, thanks to which she gained a clear advantage over the other competitors.
The second round was worse. Andrejczyk threw only 60.52 meters. The Polish javelin thrower dropped to 5th place after Australian Kathryn Mitchell achieved 62.63 meters.
The third series began with the Polish competitor hesitating and giving up halfway through the run-up. However, the replay did not bring a favorable result. It was definitely the weakest throw and she decided to burn it.
The next competitors threw better and better and it seemed that Andrejczyk's result of 62.44 meters might not be enough to advance her to the narrow final, where the eight best competitors entered. Ultimately, however, after three series, the Pole took 8th place. Elina Dzenggo had to accept the elimination, finishing the games with a result of 61.85 meters.
Three very poor throws by Maria Andrejczyk in a tight final. Poland lost another chance for a medal
This result after the first three series meant that Andrejczyk would also start the next three. Unfortunately, after a break of a few minutes, there was no improvement. The Polish javelin thrower decided to fail again. The fifth series? Another weak throw and another failed attempt. The mood before the last, sixth series was not the best.
And unfortunately, it was also very weak. Andrejczyk threw only 57.74 meters, which meant that 62.44 meters from the first series was her best result in the final – this gave her 8th place.
